Dr. Zabalgoitia was born in Delicias., Chihuahua, Mexico. He attended the University of Guadalajara School of Medicine, Guadalajara, Mexico. Dr. Zabalgoitia attended the Mexican American Hospital University of Guadalajara, Mexico for his Internship, and did his Internal Medicine Residency at the National Medical Center, the National University of Mexico, Mexico City and The University of Ottawa Heart Institute in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada for his Cardiology Fellowship. Dr. Zabalgoitia attended Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago for his Echocardiography Fellowship. He is a member of the Texas Medical Association, American College of Cardiology, American Society of Echocardiography and American Heart Association. He was awarded “Outstanding Physician” by the Nurses representing Valley Regional Medical Center, Brownsville. He achieved the rank of Professor of Medicine at the University of TX Health Science Center, San Antonio, Texas from 1992-2007. Dr. Zabalgoitia was in Private Practice in Springfield, Illinois when he decided to relocate his family to Texas. Before joining South Heart Clinic, PLLC, he was in Private Practice in Brownsville for seven years and then joined South Heart Clinic, PLLC in 2017. Dr. Zabalgoitia has active privileges at Knapp Medical Center, Valley Baptist Medical Center-Brownsville, Valley Baptist Medical Center-Harlingen and Valley Regional Medical Center in Brownsville. He resides in Brownsville with his wife Heather.
